Customer Profile:

The City of Newton Planning and Economic Development department strives to provide service to all the citizens of Newton.  Additionally, the city provides services to all potential residents, businesses and developers.

Primary Services:

Serve as resource for information regarding properties and buildings within the city’s jurisdiction.  Maintains inventory of  property available for development.

Other Services:

Serves as resource to Downtown Newton Development Association.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Funding source(s): City of Newton General Fund.  Downtown receives funding through municipal service district tax.

Other parties to which organization may be accountable: Citizens of Newton and property owners of Newton area.

Organization’s objectives for serving the business community:

Establish Newton as the destination for businesses in Catawba County by strengthening the economic assets and diversifying the economic base and enhancing the visual appearance of the city, especially the downtown which is the heart of the community.

The method(s) that objectives are measured:

Increase occupancy rate, new development, increased property values (tax base), new employees and businesses, community attendance at events.
